Axel Andersson Augustin from Kvisseröd

 

Axel was a very strict and hard father. Perhaps it was because of this that all his children left home as soon as possible.

Nine of his children left Bullaren and alone at home was his wife Inger Helena Johansdotter. Axel emigrated in May 1887 and settled in Stoughton, Wisconsin, where his children were living.

Axel was longing for home all summer and wanted to go back to Bullaren. His sons were planning to send him home but Axel got ill and died late that summer.

He is buried at Pleasant Spring Cemetery in Stoughton. In the same cemetery is his daughter Hedda Sefania (Sarah in America) and one of her children and Axels son Carl Johan burried

Johanna Maja (Hannah i Amerika), born 1854-09-08, dead in Napa Valley in California. Johanna was married two or three times. The name of her first husband is unknown but he owned a hotel or” rooming house” in San Francisco and was quite wealthy. The last years before her death was she married to Phillip Gaupp. The owned a fruit farm in Napa Valley i California. Johanna had a son,

Adolf Alfred Johnson, born 1873 and he emigrated to US 1890 and there he worked as a farmhand. His uncle Carl Johan had sent him money to the ticket. Adolf married Kate Sperle and she was of Norwegian origin.

Otto Julius (Jule in America), born 1856-04-12. He lived for a short while in Stoughton but moved later to California and nothing else is known of his life.

Hedda Sefania (Hannah in America), born 1857-12-13. None in the family is known by the name Hedda Sefania but this must be the sister in America that was called Sarah. She was married to John Petersen who was a farmer and also built violins. She had three children, Jennie, Martin och Harry. Nothing is known about them. Hedda hanged herself, probably because her husband was assaulting her.

Anders Magnus (Andrew in America), born 1865-03-08. Andrew Augustine has told that he left his home when he was 13 years old and went by foot to Norway and where he got a job at a brickfactory. When he was 20 years old his brother Julius sent him a ticket to America. When he came to Milwaukee in Wisconsin he only had 5. He walked to Stoughton where Julius was living, it was 150 km. Andrew worked in the lumbercamps in northern Wisconsin. He also worked at the railroad in Illinois. He returned to Stoughton and finished his school at Stoughton Academy and after that was he working at different tobaccofarms.
He bought a farm of his own with the help from Joseph Cannon who gave him a interestfree loan. Andrew built all the houses on the farm be himself and was a very successful farmer. He also bought the neighbouring farm. Andrew was a very polite and generous man and helped many people. He sent a ticket to America to his brother Carl Johan and helped him to settled in the new country. He took care of many children that needed temporary fosterhomes and raised one boy as his own. Magnus married Mary Livick and they had three children, two survived, Gertrude Esther och Magnus Andrew.
Gustafva Fredrika, born 1869-09-19, dead in Washington in Indiana 1946. Married to Jacob A. Hanson from Stavanger in way.
Gustafva was working as a waitress in Madison at a hotel after coming to America 1884, only years old. Jacob Hanson was a sailor when she met him. After the marriage they farmed in i Illinois and Indiana. When her husband died 1899 was the children between 16 and 2 years. Gustafva had a hard time when the children grew up and she never married again.
Ellika Augustine, married Webster, born 1861-05-27. Her wedding picture is from San Francisco so the couple was probably living in the area where other siblings were living too.

Carl Johan born 1871-03-23, dead and buried at Riverside Cemetary in Stoughton.
When Carl Johan came to America he was working at tobaccofarms in Wisconsin and on other bid wheatfarms in South Dakota. He returned to Wisconsin and run a hardwarestore for many years in Madison. He sold the store and had a farm producing milk close to Brooklyn in Wisconsin.
He raised his sisters son Phillip Franklin Johnson as his own and Phillip inhereted the farm. Carl Johan went to college and he was a learned and excellent writer. He was very sociable and often told stories about his life in Bullaren.
Carl Johan was married to Hannah Sperle from Norway. Hannah wa sister to Adolf Alfredson Johnsons wife Kate and it was their son that Carl Johan eaised as his own.
Frans Oscar born 1874-02-23 Due to the information from the family we have should Frans has died on the journey to America,.

Mathilda born 1867-03-26. There is no information about here but so was probably living in California.
